Malcolm Choat is Astra Mediation’s principal mediator.

Malcolm has decades of experience as a mediator, lawyer, and psychologist. He brings his knowledge and expertise together to help people resolve disputes.

Malcolm commenced his professional life as a solicitor in 1983. In 1990, he successfully made the transition to the Bar, and practiced as a barrister between 1990 and 2007. During his career as a barrister, Malcolm qualified to be a mediator. He was appointed as a mediator of the Supreme Court, the District Court and the NSW Dust Diseases Tribunal in 2005 and 2006. He was also appointed as a member of the NSW Bar Association’s Mediation Committee. He conducted and represented parties in many mediations.

Malcolm completed an Honours degree in psychology and retired from the legal profession in 2007 to practise as a psychologist. He continues to work as a psychologist and clinical supervisor in private practice. He has also continued to work as a mediator.

He is a nationally accredited mediator and is a registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner. His mediation experience includes family law, workplace disputes, personal injury claims medical negligence litigation and probate matters.

Malcolm has also found the time to be married, raise children and be a “father” to many animals, including two rescued therapy-greyhounds. He is an avid reader, a writer and an occasional traveller. He would like to be a poet, one day.
